Breaking News: Pamhagen wins women section

The first finished match in the European Women’s Club Cup decides the title in favor of ASVÖ Pamhagen in Austria today’s Presidents election Sunday. The team from the Burgenland gets a 2:2 against the Polish team BGK KS Gwiazda Bydgoszcz and is uncatchable with 12 of 14 possible points. On the neighboring boards, Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo and CSU ASE Superbet are “only” fighting for silver and bronze.

On the top board Elina Danielian loses her second game against a convincing Alina Kashlinskaya, but on the third board Yuliia Osmak from Ukraine equalizes for Pamhagen. Her compatriot Anna Ushenina and Poland’s Aleksandra Malsevskaya contributed draws. A compact team performance is decisive for winning the title. Danielian holds the top board with 3 points from 7 games, behind her Ushenina and Osmak are convincing with 5/7 each. Top scorer is Maltsevskaya with 5.5/7 on the fourth board.

This home victory is the first European Championship title for an Austrian club and furthermore the first ever in an adult class. A jubilant day for Austrian chess, on which SK Erste Bank Baden must not be forgotten. The Lower Austrians play today against TAJFUN – SK Ljubljana 2:2 and just barely miss the podium.
