World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen has continued his winning streak at the European Chess Club Cup in Mayrhofen: The Norwegian celebrated a favorite victory against the German Marco Baldauf. Carlsen’s team Offerspill won clearly against the Tyrolean club ‘Schach ohne Grenzen’ with 4.5:1.5. It is now the fourth win in a row for Magnus Carlsen, after he had only drawn at the start.

Day 5 of the European Chess Club Cup in Mayrhofen gave World Champion Magnus Carlsen his third win in his fourth game.
Carlsen played with the black pieces for his club Offerspill against Anton Kurbov (Ukr/Silla Valencia). After three hours and 24 minutes Carlsen was assured of victory. After the game Carlsen gave his first interview, but exclusively about his play in Mayrhofen, which he described as “quite decent”.

The 37th European Chess Club Cup and the 26th European Women’s Chess Club Cup will simultaneously take place from 2nd – 10th October in Mayrhofen, Austria.
Both events will be played in 7 rounds, swiss system, with time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.
